There was heaps of fun to be had as we all enjoyed a mix of music, singing, dance, presents and the Christmas story told to us as a play. It reminded us all that Jesus, is indeed, the Reason for the Season.

Our memory verse is found in Isaiah Chapter 9 verses 6 to 7...

For to us a child is born,
To us a son is given,
And the government will be on His shoulders.
And He will be called,
Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Food FRENZY Party!!!!!

We had a HUGE end of term bash called the FOOD FRENZY PARTY!!!! and what fun we had!
We iced beautiful biscuits and made funny faces in our desserts and spent our Power Bucks at the SHOP! We came away with really cool stuff to play with, colour in and use in our rooms!
We had a wonderful long time of worship with our brilliant band, RTK (Rep The King) and then Uncle John brought the Gospel message by helping us to understand the meaning of the memory verses we have been memorizing this term (who remembers them??!). This was a very special time!
Then we spent some time biting marshmallows off strings, passing onion chips with straws and hanging out with leaders and each other. :)

The leaders are now having a bit of a break and time to prepare for next term while the kids are looking forward to Maria taking them for some fun as times during the holidays!

We have the beautiful Ask God/Thank God and Questions box where anyone can write a short prayer or question. Questions get answered by some of out brilliant leaders and we all learn heaps!

You can see us playing balloon volley ball! hehe. so fun and hanging out with the Rep the King band members before PL starts.

We also have the memory verse and answering questions, drama games, songs, prayer, Power Pods (small groups), giving time, arts and crafts, colouring in competitions and SO much more!

Promise Land Disney PARTY!!!!

We all dressed up as princes and princesses and disney cahracters (like the Incredibles, Jasmin from Aladin, Snow White, Cinderella and so much more)
We played games and ate delicious food (like lollies and ice cream!) and had photo shoots and make masks!
It was great to celebrate the end of term in such a fun way. :)

Noah's Ark Play

We had a wonderful time in PL learning the song and getting our costumes ready.
Then on the day we dressed up and looked incredible. Beautiful birds, big bears, cheeky monkeys, elephant, zebras, lions, ladybirds, dogs, cats, leopards, penguins. you name it we had one!
Little Pebbles helped us and looked so cute in their buzzy bee outfits (lovingly made by Gloria Ward! thanks!)
the kids did a great job of remembering the song and we all had so much fun! :)

We had a brilliant time out in the beautiful sunshine playing a good game of mini golf and enjoying each others company. There was some fierce competition and some yummy snacks at the end of the games. :D It was a great way to end the term. :)

Good to see all the children enjoying their time in Promiseland each Sunday. They have been busy practising songs to sing to the church congregation next Sunday at the final end of year break up.

Auntie Shirley told the Christmas story in a unique way with a "Christmas present" full of different types of chocolate bars.

Then the "Power Buck " shop was opened for all the kids to spend their hard earned power bucks.

One very happy customer!

Busy people can be found in all corners of Promiseland on a Sunday at 10:30 am, do come and pay us a visit some Sunday morning!

Today three intrepid volunteers burst balloons to rescue the memory verse from inside them.

We are certain that God will hear our prayers when we ask for what pleases him. And if we know that God listens when we pray, we are sure that our prayers have already been answered.

Remember to learn it for next Sunday, Power Bucks will be won!
Uncle John got us to see how supple we could be, by twisting ourselves into all kinds of shapes! He wanted us to remember that supple means "bendy" and when we bend the knee to Jesus in prayer in asking for something, we are before Him in supplication.
ACTS may be more easily remembered this way.

At the beginning of the morning there is fun to be had as we all come together once again.

Teresa welcomes everyone back and and hears what everyone has been doing over the holiday period.

This semester we are going to learn about PRAYER. We want to encourage the children to pray for themselves and to learn ways to do that.

So they will learn the ACTS way of prayer over the next few weeks.

This week they learnt that ADORATION is worship and what that means.

We will go through CONFESSION (admitting to God our wrongdoing), THANKS (thanking God for all he has done for us) and finally SUPPLICATION (things we ask God for).

Please encourage your children to pray at home too. Help them to put into practice the lessons they are learning at Promiseland. This is their memory verse for the 4 weeks, at least the first half of it, so please help them with this too. There is also a box for them to put in prayers they have written or requests they would like the Promiseland leaders to pray for. It was exciting for the leaders to see how many of the children used this the very first day.

Parents? Do you know that your children get extra points if they bring their Bibles to Promiseland? Please encourage them to bring them with them. They are learning their way round the Bible with the game 'Race to the Place'.

You can even play this one at home with them! Ask them about it.

Yes it was the same memory verse again this week...so no excuses for not knowing it!

This time Auntie Lourdes had pictures and words on boxes that had to be sorted into the right order. Neat job ..thanks!

Uncle John, with the help of 3 mime artists, told us the story of the son who asked his father to give him his half of the inheritance and then went away and spent it all. Yes every single cent until he had nothing left. He found himself feeding pigs and was so hungry he wanted to eat what the pigs were eating. He realised he had been a fool and went back and said he was sorry to his father for all the foolish things he had done. But the father had always been on the lookout for his son and when he saw him coming home, he ran to greet him.

This is how God reacts in love towards us when we come to him in Repentance.

Repentance means being sorry enough to quit.

Do you recall the story of the 2 old friends? One became a judge and the other appeared before him as a criminal. The judge had to find him guilty and have him put in jail. But then he took of his robes and went and paid the fine for his friend so the friend could go free.

That's what Jesus has done for each of us.
Auntie Heather had Bartholomew help her tell the story of Jesus and his death on the cross. We thought of the 2 thieves crucified on either side of Jesus and how one made a good choice that day and the other made a bad choice. We all have to choose at some point whether we will follow after Jesus, and ask his forgiveness for all we have done wrong.

The children love contributing to helping our sponsored child, Joshua.

Everyone listened carefully to all that Uncle Maurice and his friend had to say.

Can you find all the "F's" in this sentence?

Do you remember the story of the boy who bought the umbrella and didn't know how to use it? can you tell it to your mum or dad?

Uncle Maurice showed us it was like having a Bible and carrying it everywhere but never opening it to see what was inside.
Then he showed us an example of faith.....and said he would tip a cup of water over someone's head without them getting wet! Here we have a brave volunteer....who at times didn't look too trusting as he pulled his hoodie up!! But he was safe! And our trust in God should be complete for He is perfectly trustworthy.

Auntie Lorraine told us the story about Sammy Stingtail who fancied himself as as Private Eye but proved to be unteachable because he wouldn't listen to good advice and thought he knew better than his teacher. Auntie Katie acted out the story by changing hats for each character! She was really kept busy !

Another week, another fun time at Promiseland.

Praise and worship opens all our hearts to God.
A different type of Promiseland today as many of the leaders were away at a Kidsreach conference. We missed you guys but we had lots of fun with Auntie Glenys!

She taught us the Golden rule!

Then told us the story of the Ten Boom family who lived above their clockmakers shop in Haarlem in Holland. This family lived by the Golden Rule and always treated others right.
Corrie and her sister Bettie ran a girls' clubs in Haarlem but when the Nazis invaded in 1940 they had to close down the club.

Auntie Glenys broke into the story at this point to teach us the memory verse for the day. Can you work it out again from the picture below?

Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other,

just as in Christ God forgave you. Ephesians 4:32

The story then continued. Remember the way the Ten Boom family hid the Jews from the Nazis? And how one day they were taken prisoner and sent to concentration camps? About the miracle of getting the Bible and the special vitamin bottle into the camp? What was there to be thankful about the fleas in their cabin? Yes the 2 sisters were able to share the Bible with all the other ldaies in that cabin because the guards were afraid of the fleas.

Unfortunately Bettie died in that camp and shortly afterwards Corrie was freed, and made her way back to Holland.

But the hardest thing she ever had to do was forgive and shake hands with a former prisoner guard who had been very unkind to her sister Bettie. But Corrie knew she couldn't teach others about the forgiveness of God if she couldn't forgive this guard. So she took his hand and forgave him and felt the love of Jesus pouring through her .

Thank you Auntie Glenys. Everyone enjoyed that special story!

Then Auntie Heather pulled 2 words from the M box.....this week we were talking about changing from being lazy to being diligent!

Diligent means to do our very best whenever we have a task to do.

Auntie Heather then told us the story of Noah. How God asked him to do a job and he did it to the best of his ability. He was asked to build an ark ....a large boat....and the people around him laughed but God said he did a great job and it saved Noah and his family and the animals he had gathered to have on board with him too.

Mother's day 2

Great to be back with the kids at Promiseland today. And we welcomed visitors from the East Coast Bays Bible Baptist church who joined together with us for Mother's Day. We had a great time of worship first with the band. Jamie plays the keyboard for the band with great enjoyment.
Everyone is excited to be back and keen to answer questions!
It was Auntie Teresa's birthday this week! But it was also a sad time saying farewell to Mel who has been such a great help in Promiseland dduring her OE time here from the UK. Do come back and see us Auntie Mel!

Then the children had a good morning making gifts and cards for their mums. Thanks to Emz and team who helped everyone make choc chip muffins, cards and candles.

The muffins were great ...and here is the recipe for any kids who want to try it at home!

Then Uncle Ross taught us the memory verse this week. It was quite a "tongue twister" and he had enthusiastic volunteers trying to say the verse when holding their tongues or with fingers in their mouths! Can you remember the verse?

Those who talk a lot are likely to sin.

But those who control their tongues are wise.

Uncle John then reminded us that we are thinking of Metamorphosis and how God wants to change us. Today we learnt that God wants us to transform our talk, from talk that is hurtful to talk that is helpful and encouraging to others. He told us the story of of the Insect-Inside circus and it's leader Bugliacci, and the real mean Fleeago, who spread untrue rumours about, until the circus had to disband. Can you remember the story and tell your mum or dad? There were 2 ways to help get gossip out of our lives. We can stop and forget the story we have just been told or we can go straight to the person who the gossip was about and ask if it was true. These are 2 ways you can take God's wisdom from the Bible and let God transform this area of your life!

Everyone is very busy enjoying different activities at the start of Promiseland.

Eventually we are called to worship with the Promiseland band.

Congratulations to Diane who did so well at running this week at her school!

Auntie Teresa had Chuppa chops to keep everyone quiet as we learnt the memory verse this week.

Auntie Tammie encouraged everyone to get involved! What was the verse? Can you remember?

Christ died for our sins as the scriptures say.

He was buried and three days later he was raised to life.

Auntie Jenny came to visit and brought some beautiful boxes. Can you tell Mum or dad what was in them?

Yes! The first one contained an Easter egg. She reminded us of how much it cost Jesus to go to the cross for us, and how he was wrapped in clothes and sealed in a tomb but on that first Easter morning the tomb was found to be empty.....as she cut a bit out of the egg and there was nothing inside!

And in the second box? Yes there was a hot cross bun! Afterwards we were all to get a bit of bun and some chocolate as a gift. But with a gift you have to accept or reject that gift. God gave us Jesus as a gift. Jesus came to pay the penalty of our sin. That was his gift to us. Have we accepted that gift for ourselves?

Welcome back to Promiseland for 2008. Good to be back and a special welcome to all those kids who are in Promiseland for the first time.

This semester we want to get the kids to realise that just as a caterpillar can turn into a butterfly, so God wants to transform us into new creatures. He wants to take the way we think about things and the way we do things and change them completely.
So the verse for the next few weeks is from Romans 12:2.

"Don't copy the behaviour and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will know what God wants you to do, and you will know how good and pleasing and perfect his will really is."

We praised God together in song.

Everyone listened intently to Auntie Lorraine as she began to explain about Metamorphosis. (Charlotte could spell that without the help of spellchecker!!!)

Auntie Lorraine had lots of helpers as you can see. Including Flya, Flittany and Cutter our three intrepid critters.
We don't need to tell people how good we are all the time. God asks us to follow the Bible guidelines he has laid down for us.

Let another praise you and not your own mouth

Let someone else praise you and not your own lips.

Remember kids if you can say that to your team leader next Sunday you will get a Power Buck.

A visit from a prophetess.

While many of the Promiselanders are involved in rehearsals for the Christmas play, others spent time making cards or filling in question sheets regarding the Christmas story.

Today we saw how the promises of God were fulfilled. The children had a visit from 'Anna', the prophetess who was always found in the temple worshipping God, and with Simeon, waiting for the promised Messiah they knew would come. Simeon blessed the baby Jesus when Mary and Joseph brought him to the temple. And Anna was so excited to see the baby she couldn't stop telling everyone about him.The memory verse underlined that God does things in his timing. Here are the children working out together what the verse was.

A great Indian evening was organised by Teresa as a thank you to all those involved in the Children's ministry within the church. This includes Club Bubs, Little Peebles, Promiseland, Jumpstart, & the Mainly Music ministries.
Some were a little loose in their interpretation of Indian ..... nice smile Ross!

The art of sari application was explained and trialled. The food was excellent too. Though some pyromaniacs thought the naan bread needed flame grilled!!

Having fun at Promiseland is as easy as ABC......but that is not this week's FLIP!

Avoiding the limelight is as easy as ABC as our powerpoint girl of the day proved.....but that wasn't this week's FLIP.

This week's memory verse was?

YES!

For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son
that whoever believes in Him shall not perish

Uncle Matthew showed us that it doesn't matter how much we sin and mess up we all look the same to God. But God sent his son Jesus to be our Forever Friend.

Knowing what your friends preferences are wasn't quite as easy as ABC.....but we are getting closer to this week's FLIP
YES! Being friends with Jesus is as easy as ABC.

ADMIT (to Jesus that you have done wrong things.)

BELIEVE (that Jesus is the Son of God and he can forgive your sins)

CHOOSE ( to follow Jesus with your whole life.)

The children were given the opportunity to make that FLIP.....and a simple prayer was prayed to give them the chance to make Jesus their Forever Friend. Some of the children prayed that for the first time. There would be much rejoicing in heaven!

Promiseland got under way again this week, everyone seemed happy to be back. There were some industrious artists.

And plenty of odd characters around!

We began by worshipping the Lord together along with the band.

Julia was the only birthday girl this week.
Auntie Heather reminded us that we were collecting cereal and snack bars for the Auckland City Mission. So lets see if we can fill the bags up! OK?

The memory verse this week was taught by Auntie Anne. Can you remember the story she told about the verse?

Auntie Heather had a fun game for us called "Stand Up"

It was fun watching as various children tried to stands up on the big balls! Why was it so hard? Because it wasn't balanced! And sometimes life is like that too. Standing up for what is right can be difficult when others are doing something wrong. The video we watched told us of a time Jesus stood up for what was wrong in the temple, when he overturned the moneychangers tables. Like Jesus we need sometimes to "Stop and Stand".

Uncle Babak showed us when he threw a ball against the wall it came back to him....he had some of the children try this too... Then he told us how when we don't forgive others who hurt us, then the hurt and the pain of the problem just keep bouncing back in our faces. Believe it or not, hard as it can be, forgiving changes things and makes the situation better. We heard the story of how Peter let Jesus down three times when he denied he knew the Lord. But Jesus forgave him...... for free!
So this weeks FLIP is....yes!....Forgive for Free!

Small group time followed as the children played a board game and found that forgiving people who hurt us is the real way to move forward.

Remember at Promiseland we always aim to make it the best hour and a half in the children's week. We hope the kids will have lots of fun as they learn about Jesus and and how he can FLIP our lives around. BTW...... it is not only the kids who have fun.................... Andrew is busy making a vase of flowers out of card and brightly coloured tissue paper. Great job Andrew.Hi girls!

Again a great time was had as we sang and worshipped the Lord with the Promiseland band.

Auntie Debbie reminded us to bring donations for our Mission Outreach this year. If the children could bring some cereal or lunch box items that we can fill these big brown bags with, then we can take a few children to the Auckland City Mission to give them an insight into what goes on there.
Auntie Anne taught the memory verse today. She thought it was the longest one we have learnt this year but the children were up for the challenge and soon were vying for the privilege of repeating it first.

Uncle Matthew tested 3 young volunteers in the Temptation Game. But they all resisted temptation very well! We watched a video that told us how Satan met with Jesus and tried to tempt him. But Jesus stood up to him and never gave into temptation. We learnt that God will always help us deal with temptation and never let us be pushed past our limits.

We missed Auntie Debbie and all the Promiseland band members who had deserted us for Snow Camp this week. We managed to enjoy ourselves as you will find in the following photos....and we hope you had a great time also.

We even had the the Police on site this week, but they seemed more intent on enjoying themselves!
Some were practising for the ski fields next year !!!!!

Promiseland band.......watch out! You had major competition from Auntie Lorraine who got us all dancing and singing .....see everyone got involved!

As if that was not enough exercise Auntie Heather and Uncle John paired everyone off then put us through major contortions as we learnt the memory verse. Kids?....show your parents what to do and teach them the memory verse too.

We watched a video of a young girl learning to water ski.....and heard the story of Peter and how when Jesus walked out on the water to the disciples in the boat.....Peter got out and walked on water too. But when he took his eyes off Jesus and looked at the wind and waves instead...he panicked and started to sink. But Jesus caught him and helped him back into the boat. We learnt that Jesus will give us the strength to do the right things even when we are scared.

Hey folks we are back! We enjoyed the break and are about to set off on a FLIPT adventure with your children over the next few weeks. I hope they all remember what Flipt means.....never mind that it is going to play havoc with my spell checker!!!
Cheralyn started her Sunday off by getting her face painted.....she seems very pleased with the result. Then the band led us all into a time of praise and worship, we did learn a new song but here you see Katy with her willing helpers singing one of the old favorites. Would be neat if we could add some audio to the blog so that you could hear the children's enthusiastic singing.

Auntie Lourdes taught us the memory verse this week. She threw this brightly wrapped ball to random kids and they had to get up and say the verse. They were all so keen to catch that ball!

The verse was ...." Come follow me, Jesus said." Matthew4:19

Then to start off our Flipt campaign we had a fun game to underline what flip meant.

We had flippers!

They had one minute to see which team had the most pancakes stacked ......the girls won!!

We were reminded of the memory verse and that following Jesus means obeying him. It means to let go of doing things our way. To get FLIPT to do things Jesus' way.

Remember the "SURPRISE" that the members of both teams got? That was to remind us that sometimes Jesus has unbelievable surprises in store for us when we LIVE HIS WAY.

Promiseland takeover !

Once a year the Promiselanders take over the main church service to show everyone what happens at the other end of the church where all the action usually is! We hope you enjoyed the experience. It is good to share what we do with this children each Sunday and give you a small taste of the good things we do together.
The Promiseland band helped to set the mood as they warmed up while everyone was finding their teams and starting on the worksheet. Good to see grandparents sharing the morning with their grandchildren!

Once everyone is settled we are off! Katie leading in worship as everyone joined in.

Then each team sent a representative to read a passage of scripture, with a prize for the best and most exciting reading.

The Promiseland leaders shared a simple illustration of the story of salvation with the congregation. We learned that this world has one major fault....SIN...and Jesus came to earth to be the sacrifice for our sin. Now because of Jesus' love for us, we don't need to give God sacrifices like they did in the Old Testament. When Jesus died he was the perfect sacrifice, the only one we would ever need. Because of Jesus' sacrifice, we can ask for forgiveness of our sins. If you have never asked Jesus' to forgive your sins before ...how about doing it now?

Time for plenty of fun and friendship as we once again gathered together to worship the Lord with the children in Promiseland.

Everyone enjoys when the singing with the Promiseland band gets underway......this Sunday we sang "Jesus, Jesus" and.... "in the Secret....in the quiet place"....

Auntie Heather was standing in for Auntie Debbie (hope you had a good relaxing weekend away Auntie Debbie!). These were our birthday girls for the week! Talking of birthdays...congratulations to Haydn Bird....who became an uncle this week! Way to go Haydn! Uncle John taught us actions to the memory verse .....which was....?
Yes ! Well done!

Then everyone got involved in the "Show you Know Pop Quiz" (ok.....try saying that quickly 5 times). The questions were to clearly show us that Jesus was both God and Man. The children worked as a team and got all the questions right! Jesus felt all of the things that we feel as people. But Jesus was also God. He had all the power of God. Remember to come back next week when we are going to talk more about Jesus in the main church in Promiseland takeover Sunday!

The Promiseland Power Buck shop was open today.....very popular!! Thank you to all those who contribute to keeping the shop this well stocked. Needless to say once the boys and girls had been through....it was not looking quite like this!!!!! How many power bucks for the BBQ Auntie Debbie???

This week we were missing so many leaders from Promiseland.....they were away at a Kidsreach seminar picking up new ideas for us to do in the weeks ahead. Auntie Gill came back with two great crafts for the kids to do.....they could either make a stained glass window with using the outline of their hand to start it .....or they could make a special bookmark. Thanks Auntie Gill.....everyone had a great time trying these crafts out. See everyone is getting involved!

Then it was time to sing again with the Promiseland band......some look a little unsure....

Auntie Lorraine was standing in for Auntie Debbie today and did a wonderful job.
Each year group was asked to sign the memory verse for today as a reminder that each of us can call on God at any time and he promises to answer.
Then we were challenged to accept the mission that was delivered by this shady character......

in this special overnight delivery box......

It was a coded message.....each group got down to it......some had the answers worked out before others had opened the envelope....
hope you all ended up with the right answers.....
We were reminded that God promises to answer our prayers.....but sometimes the answers are not always "Yes" as we would wish. Sometimes God says No (red light) or wait (amber).

In the small groups the children were told about Jonah's prayer in the whale, about Mary & Martha asking Jesus to heal Lazarus and then the prayer that Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane. Can you see if you remember what the answer to these 3 prayers were and tell your mum or dad?

Parents it was really neat to have more children pray themselves in the small group times.....keep encouraging them at home to make prayer part of their regular daily practice.

Yes! "Pray continually." Found in 1 Thessalonians5:17. All the time, every day and night, God wants us to talk to him. We can pour out our hearts, cry, sing, reason or laugh. But amazingly God just wants to hear from us. Have you talked to God today?

We commenced as always with a time of praise and worship with the Promiseland band leading us. Here some volunteers are doing the actions to "In the Secret"..... get your kids to teach them to you..... In The Secret lyrics

Good to have the Promiseland Band leading us off again in worship today. Everyone enjoyed the singing and worshipping the Lord together. Great to have such enthusiastic singers .....thanks girls.

Auntie Hilary brought us the memory verse today. In the main church the parents were talking about "Confession is good for the soul" and we were learning that if we confess our sins God has promised to forgive us. Remember to learn the memory verse this week...you can earn a "Power Buck" next week if you can say it to your small group leader.
Uncle Matthew took us through the story of the ungrateful servant, who though the King had forgiven him a HUGE debt, found it impossible to forgive his fellow servant who owed him a minor debt by comparison. He also told us about Peter who thought he was so good because he would forgive his brother 7 times! What did Jesus say in reply? He said you need to forgive 7x70...which Charlotte (our resident mathematician) said was 490 times!! That's a lot of times isn't it! So Jesus was telling us that we need to forgive and keep forgiving. That can be hard at times can't it?

We did very well in the quiz found below! All the boys and girls had been listening well. Now our mission ....if we chose to accept it is....to forgive others.

Prayer at Promiseland.

This week, as Promiseland leaders planned for the new semester, Auntie Glenys, took the first session. Here she is telling about Gladys Aylward who went out to China as a missionary .She was known for leading over 100 orphans across a mountain pass for nearly a month to safety during the Chinese-Japanese war. You can see everyone was listening intently!
Someone special was helping with the traffic lights this week. Ask your family if they can remember what the traffic lights represented in respect to God answering our prayers.
Yes! We learnt how God often answers our prayers like a traffic light. Red means" no", green for "yes "and amber for" wait a while". Busy with activities!
Some very special visitors from Thailand were with us today. Hope you enjoyed Promiseland!

Each year group spent time together out and about this final Sunday of this semester. Years 4 & 6 went to the Village Green Mini Golf on Oteha Valley Road and had a great, though rather rushed time. Did anyone tally up the scores?? It seemed having fun was far more important than who won.

The y1’s & 3’s visited Browns Bay where they purchased delicious ice-creams at Penguinos then walked to the park and had great fun on all the equipment. The y 2’s went to Long Bay Beach and also had a wonderful time.

Year 5's went ten pin bowling. How many of you got a Strike!

We will be having a break over Easter time and will recommence at Promiseland on April 29th. There will be a low key programme for the children on 15 & 22 April.

Thanks to all the parents who have helped out over the past few weeks and provided transport yesterday.

The Road to Jerusalem.

Quite an exciting morning was had by all the church on Sunday when Promiseland joined with the main congregation to portray a little of the steadfastness of Jesus as he set his face to go to Jerusalem. What a privilege to be part of the story of the "Coming of the King".
The Promiseland band led in worship today and did a great job. There was a lot of excitement and bustle in the foyer as the children waited with their palm branches to welcome the King.
Here is Paul, full of mischief as usual, and Jessica behind him, waiting patiently!Once in church the children laid their palm branches down just as those who welcomed Jesus to Jerusalem all those many years ago would have done. And they waited for the King to come.

Jesus had quite a few things he had to do this week leading up to his crucifixion and nothing out him off course. He went into the Temple and there found the money changers back in the entrance court making money out sacrifices that the people were offering to God. Jesus took a whip and cleared them all out saying..."It is written, my house will be a house of prayer; but you have made it a den of robbers."

The children enjoyed teaching their new songs to the church.

Later Eliezer's wife came looking for him to tell him how she had seen Jesus entering the city on the back of a donkey....the King has come she said. What King? Caesar? asked Eliezer. No! our King, she said..."the King of the Jews".

We are coming to the end of our time in the Jerusalem Marketplace. Each one has enjoyed learning about different aspects of Jerusalem in the time of Jesus. Ask your children what they have enjoyed most about the last few weeks. ( I think quite a few will say sharing the lovely bread together!!)

Unfortunately the camera settings had been accidentally changed so not too many photos this week...sorry kids. :(

But here are some of the Hebrew letters that a number of Promiselanders enjoyed copying under the tutelage of Rabbi Matthew.

Our thanks to all the ladies who ran stalls in the marketplace for everyone to enjoy.

The marketplace was once again disrupted by Mary running around looking for Peter. She was in such an excited state, running around and jumping up and down, with a huge smile on her face. Eventually she found Peter hiding in a corner. "JESUS IS ALIVE" she shouted to Peter. Peter looked doubtful. He is ! Mary said. I've seen Him! Come Peter and see the empty tomb.

Later in our Tribe times we discussed how Mary must have felt. How thrilled, and excited. Wasn't it just wonderful that Jesus was alive! And what did that mean to us today! It was a great discussion.

Parents please remember we would like the children slightly earlier on Sunday 25th March as they will be taking part in the main service that day.

Also each year group will be having a special outing with their leaders on Sunday April 1st. Can you please return the indemnity forms that your child should have brought home last week.

Jerusalem Marketplace.

Have you been wondering what lies behind the sign to the Jerusalem market place?......well this is where the children of Promiseland have been spending their Sunday mornings recently.
Rabbi Levi has kept various students busy as they visit him for their Hebrew lessons. Not too sure how a pink cowboy hat fitted into Jerusalem Charlotte :) but you sure suited it anyway!
We have visitors of all ages in the marketplace! Hi Nathan!

Looks as though things were busy at the pottery stall this week ...look at all the pottery left out to dry.
And the bakery stall is always popular! And the smell of fresh bread............yummmmmmm!
Pestles were kept busy at the Herb and Spices stall.
Into the middle of all this hustle and bustle came someone chasing the disciple Peter. The pursuer accused Peter of being a follower of Jesus, he was sure that he had seen Peter at the cross when Jesus was crucified. You must be a Jesus Follower! Peter kept on denying he had ever known Jesus.

Why did they kill Jesus?

Why did Peter say he didn't know Jesus?

What do you think will happen to Jesus' friends?

The Promiseland band led us in some songs again... everyone loves singing "Jesus, Jesus, Precious Jesus."

Jerusalem Market place

It was as busy as ever in the Jerusalem merket place this Sunday! Much hustle and bustle and some tourists stopping by to see the sights.....would you believe!....yes even one with a video camera! But it didn't distract our weaver as you can see.....very intent on her work here. Jacob was learning the Hebraic alphabet from Rabbi Levi and doing a great job at copying them down.
3 ladies dressed in the latest Jerusalem fashions were found around the well chatting as all good ladies do!
Many people were busy with their hands making pottery items here.......

and little sachets of spices here.....my! it smells good.
A commotion in the centre of the square found a very distressed James calling for Mary to let her know how Judas, who he had always thought was his friend!...yes, Judas, had brought soldiers to the Garden of Gethsemane where Jesus was praying....( he asked me to pray too, Mary, but I fell asleep)......and Judas kissed Jesus.... a sign to let them know who to arrest. Arrest! said Mary. They have arrested Jesus! Oh no! that cannot be.....and James and Mary left to tell others what had happened to Jesus.
Here is Year 6 celebrating the Sabbath together in the "upper room". It looks as if they are having a great time!

Everyone really enjoys the new songs we are learning and the dance and actions that go with them. Thanks to the Promiseland band again for teaching them to us.

We paid a visit to each small group during Tribe Time at the Jerusalem Market Place this past Sunday.

Year 4's belong to the tribe of Judah and their symbol is the Lion.

The Year 2's learnt all about Jewish customs from Rabbi Levi (Matthew Sherborne) and Lourdes Sherborne. Here they are learning about the Havdalah candle that is lit to symbolise the separation between the end of the Sabbath from the rest of the week. The year 3's belong to the tribe of Joseph and enjoy meeting with their tribe leaders Auntie Hilary and Auntie Yvonne.

The Year 5's learnt about the Shema that is kept in the Mezuza. Their tribe leaders are Auntie Lorraine and Amir.

Mums and dads, welcome to Jerusalem! The Promiseland room has been transformed over the next few weeks into the city of Jerusalem. You will find members of the 12 tribes of Israel present, ask your children to which tribe they belong. Come and visit and walk round the market stalls too. This is Gemma. It was her first day with us. Hi Gemma! Rabbi Levi was busy at the rabbinical school teaching the hebrew alphabet to willing students.
In the middle of all the normal hustle and bustle of the market, one lady sought out her husband to tell him that the King was here! She had seen him, riding into the city on the back of a donkey. People had laid down cloaks and palm branches in front of the donkey so the King could ride over them and they all kept shouting Hosanna! Hosanna! No! No ! she said this was not Caesar but the King of the Jews. Her husband was not impressed.....he would need some more convincing.
There were bakers.

We learnt new songs and dances to worship the Lord with . Everyone got the hang of them quickly and had great fun as we sang them together. Thanks Promiseland band!

People gathered round the well to chat as they have done for centuries.

We're BACK!

Promiseland started again today. It was great to see you all back and to see a few new faces. Here Genna & Kaitlin (both newbies) meet Mehrnaz and show her their colouring skills. Both Genna and Rosemary dressed up for the occasion!!

Mission Unstoppable proceeded!

We remembered the story of how the disciples were out in a boat on the lake when a bad storm came up. They thought they saw a ghost walking on the water, but it was Jesus. "Don't be afraid it is I" Jesus said. Peter got out of the boat and and started to walk toward Jesus. When he saw the wind he began to sink, until Jesus took his hand and caught him. The disciples then believed that Jesus was the Son of God.

Auntie Heather wanted to walk across the plank of wood......but how could she trust it? She had to check it out first that it wasn't too flimsy, sit on it and bounce on it to check it could hold her and then she was ready to try to walk across. This is how we learn to trust God. By testing that he is totally reliable and then being willing to trust him with everything. Are you ready to walk across the plank of life with Jesus? Remember that Great is our Lord and mighty in power!
